I love to share content. I love to share news articles, cool posts, and even some inspiring quotes and stories. In fact, I would go even as far to say that’s what Twitter is for. Is for sharing.

So why, WHY on God’s green earth would a content creator make it a CHALLENGE for me to share and to credit that share?

Isn’t that the point of making content? Is to share it?

Here is one BIG tip to make people not only share your work, but also to ensure you get the credit for it.

Could it really be simple? Could it really be free? Yes, and yes! My two favorite words strung together: easy and free.

So here it is. Are you ready for it? Here is the number one tip I have found the most frustrating when trying to share YOUR content:

Make sure your sharing tool is adding your @username handle for Twitter!

That way when people share your content, it’ll tag you as the author on Twitter. And if you go back to your profile page and click on ‘tweets and replies’ you can see who is sharing your content to thank them!

Now I’m not a marketing expert, but it has been driving me bonkers when not only do news articles and blog posts not have the Twitter tag when clicking the sharing button, but some times they don’t even have the author’s Twitter name included in the article! Arg! I just want to give the author props for writing a cool article, okay? Okay! I will even go as far as to search for the author’s name on Twitter and try to find them. But lately, I haven’t been doing that as much, because honestly who has that kind of time?

    No idea what this is or how to do it or what it would look like on my blog.
    Sounds good but I am afraid of what might be result. Reluctant to fix what is working.

    • Hi Bruce, I know for wordpress.com at least if you go to your site admin page under the “settings” tab click on Sharing Settings. Then down the page will show this: “Twitter username to include in tweets when people share using the Twitter button.” just type in your twitter username.

      If you do, whenever someone shares your posts via Twitter, it will link your twitter user name. This way you will know when they tweet about you, and they can easily follow you on twitter also (because they can click on the ‘follow’ button after they tweet your post).         I found your Blog very interesting and helpful. I hope the few people who visit my Blog READ it and benefit as I have. I am an Author, but know VERY LITTLE about Blogging. Although I have 4 books released, my ;atest release is “DABVID JANSSEN-Our Conversations, Volume One-The Early Years (1965-1972) and Volume Two-The Final Years (1973-1980). I am certain you are way too young to remember David, but he was a Hollywood icon, best known as “THE FUGITIVE” (ABC TV-1963-196).

        I am honored by your invitation to be on your Blog, but I have no idea what I could contribute.

        That is no problem! We all start somewhere 🙂

    Ironic you mention showcasing my books. On 31 March 1931, A STAR was born, DAVID JANSSEN. In a career spanning 34 years, he appeared and/or starred in Forty-four Feature Films, twenty Made-for-Television Movies and Starred in four television sereis; “RICHARD DIAMOND-Private Detective” (CBS-NBC, 1957-1960), “THE FUGITIVE” (ABC, 1963-1967), “O’HARA, U. S. Treasury” (CBS, 1971) and “HARRY O.” (ABC, 1974-1976). On the third day of filming what would have been his 21st. Made-for-Television Movie, “FATHER DAMIEN”, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, 13 February 1980, DAVID JANSSEN succumbed to a massive heart attack at his Malibu Beach (CA) home.

    In 1988, I Co-authored “DAVID JANSSEN-MY FUGITIVE” with ELLIE JANSSEN, David’s first wife. Originally published in December of 1994 (Hardcover), with Paperback Editions released in 1995,1996 and 1997. The book sold in excess of 1.2 million copies worldwide. Over the years many of David’s fans and a few of hius close friends have urged me to write a memoir of our friendship, which lasted the last fifteen years of his life.
